Dr. Gittleman is a seasoned research epidemiologist and program executive with thirty years’ experience in occupational safety and health leadership, emergency preparedness/risk management, and finance at the local, state and federal levels of government. She has extensive research, training, and service collaborations with academic institutions and private industry stakeholders.
She developed and implemented Intelligence Community “All Hazards” response plans and programs for emerging infectious diseases and for continuous improvement at the Defense Intelligence Agency with global reach. Dr. Gittleman served as an advisor to the United States Secretary of Health (Thompson) during both the World Trade Center and Anthrax crises and led the development of response policies, programs, and procedures for Ebola, Zika and COVID-19 outbreaks, epidemics, and pandemic diseases for the DoD.
Dr. Gittleman had numerous positions at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). She developed and tested models for state and local Emergency Response plans to threats of bioterrorism, developed national surveillance systems, and prepared funding guidance documents for the CDC, HRSA, and NIH for their funding to states for disease detection and emergency response preparedness.
