Dr. Linden is the former Director, Office of Regulatory Science and Innovation at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. She was the inaugural director of BARDA, from its inception in 2006 through April 2008. Her duties included oversight of advanced development and acquisition programs for Project BioShield medical countermeasures for CBRN threats as well as pandemic influenza vaccines, drugs, diagnostics, and infrastructure.
Dr. Linden co-chaired with the Department of Defense the Working Group on Strengthening the Biosecurity of the United States, which was mandated by an Executive Order, and produced a report with recommendations submitted to the White House.
She obtained her bachelor’s degree in biology from Bryn Mawr College, and Ph.D. from the University of California Los Angeles in molecular biology. She conducted postdoctoral research at the California Institute of Technology and University of Maryland prior to joining the research staff at the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases, where she subsequently served as the Chief, Research Plans and Programs.
